Did you know that this is American Education Week? In honor of this week and our passion for education, we are answering some frequently asked questions about the IPS Education Foundation and how we support education in Indianapolis.
How is the IPSEF related to IPS?
The IPS Education Foundation is an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to connect IPS classrooms with community resources. We collaborate with IPS teachers and administrators to ensure our funds and projects are improving IPS schools. Many IPS employees, alumni and school board members are Foundation donors, but our board is a separate entity made up of passionate community members who want to see IPS students reach their goals.
What does the IPSEF actually do?
The Foundation’s mission is to connect IPS classrooms and students with the resources they need to be successful. If that’s funding for a project, connecting schools with community resources or offering funding for supplies teachers need. Since our founding, we’ve awarded over $9 million in grants for teachers! We also connect IPS to community resources, whether it’s through our partnership with the Monumental Marathon, the IPS Hall of Fame or engaging corporate sponsorships, we are committed to our role in being a benefit to IPS and the Indianapolis community.
Why does the district need a foundation?
While IPS does receive money from the government, it is not always enough to cover needs of individual teachers or schools. We’re here to fill in gaps that may exist and serve the needs of the teachers and students within IPS schools. Our goal is to offer high quality learning environments to IPS students. We’ve been able to offer some exciting opportunities for students and teachers, which you can see through our blog posts.
I don’t have a lot of money. Can I still help?
Absolutely! With programs like our matching grants through DonorsChoose.org, even the smallest donations count because when IPSEF chooses to commit a matching grant to a project, your money will double in impact! We also can use help from volunteers. If you’re willing to part with some of your time, we can get you connected with an opportunity. We’d also love for you to share information about the Foundation with your business, friends and family. The more people we can get behind our organization, either as donors or volunteers, the better.
