The Indianapolis Monumental Marathon benefits Indianapolis Public Schools in many ways, including efforts to support active learning, like their partnership with Super School 19.

Super School 19 students benefit greatly from funds raised at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon because these dollars are used to purchase specialty equipment that promote the active learning concept in practice at the school. Much of the stationary learning equipment promotes activity and exercise while students sit for their lessons, which has been shown to promote attentiveness and retention, while also positively effecting student health and wellness.

School 19 is also the first school to promote participation by students in the Monumental Marathon, which eventually lead the marathon to create the Monumental Kids Marathon. 2014 will see approximately 1,400 IPS students participating. Each year as the marathon grows, so does the connectivity and participation within IPS, increasing the connectivity and support for both organizations.

“We are grateful for the amazing support we receive from the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon,” said principal Aleicha Ostler. “We are able to provide an innovative educational setting that promotes not only increased physical activity, but also increased learning motivation for our students that would otherwise not be available.”

The 2014 Indianapolis Monumental Marathon is this Saturday, November 1. Find more information about the marathon here.
