Corporate donors are a great support to the IPS Education Foundation. Ingersoll Rand’s Security Technologies sector has been a corporate sponsor of the Foundation for several years. This year, as the Security Technologies business was spun off to the newly formed company, Allegion, they made a larger donation as a celebration for becoming their own entity.
“This year, as a celebration for spinning off, we’re making a statement. We wanted to do more and go with more substantial grants this year,” says Cynthia Farrer, Allegion’s vice president of Americas operations. “We know how difficult it is for foundations to have money. To support these initiatives, teachers end up spending their own money to get something more innovative, engaging in the classroom. We know how important this is to the teachers.”
Farrer spoke to us about supporting their employee base by supporting school districts where their children are. While Allegion’s employees’ children are in several school systems throughout central Indiana, many of them have students in IPS schools. Because of their employees’ connections and their company’s connection to education, the IPS Education Foundation was a natural fit.
“Many of our products are used in schools, so education is something we’re very tied to from a business standpoint,” Farrer says. “As we wanted to partner with the community, we felt like this was a good investment of our dollars. We believe in supporting schools and creativity in the classroom.”
Allegion has also adopted IPS School 94 as a special partner to support the school by replacing door hardware and getting employees into classrooms for Earth Day, among other projects. This also allows them to see that the grant dollars have been used and how the money is helping in schools and neighborhoods.
Farrer says that when they are looking at funding distribution, “There’s always a big pull from IPS. From observations, the funding is really needed, and that’s a need we recognize.”
Because of corporate support from companies like Allegion, the IPS Education Foundation is able to offer continued support to IPS students and teachers. For more information on how you can help support the work of the Foundation, visit us here.
