Diane Arnold has been involved with IPS for 45 years. She currently serves as the IPS School Board President.
For her, the start of a new school year each August brings new excitement and renewed energy.
“Very, very excited or the start of a new school year in 2013 with a new superintendent in place, and we’re working together to create a strategic vision for where we want the district to go,” Arnold says. “I am a firm believer that every community deserves a great school.”
Arnold says that her excitement comes from knowledge of the “brilliant students and phenomenal teachers” who make up the IPS system.
It also comes from understanding the impact that the IPS Education Foundation will have on classrooms all school year long.
“Under the new leadership of Linda Broadfoot, the Foundation has become more active,” Arnold says. “What I see moving forward is better communication and more collaboration between what Foundation is doing and what the school board can do to support that.”
For example, Arnold welcomes the Foundation’s initiative to prioritize Technology in Teaching throughout every district classroom.
“I like the focus on the technology piece,” Arnold says. “Where there are inequities between schools, the Foundation is willing to see that need and work to remove barriers and bring needed tools to our students.”
The Foundation deeply appreciates Arnold’s support and the support of the IPS School Board, because it takes more than one group to build a great school district. It takes an entire community. We think Arnold put it best when we spoke with her.
“We all need to be there to more readily support each other and our district,” she says.
And, we can’t think of a better lesson as we head back to school.
